Even During a Superstorm.

Since 2009, Ehrbar has relied on IntelliDealerASP as its business information system. Says IT Manager Edward Ahern, “We selected IntelliDealer on the ASP platform for a variety of reasons, but mostly because it would help us be more competitive. We liked the fact that CDK would provide automatic software updates, and we particularly liked that we would avoid huge capital expenditures and help us reduce our IT costs.”

Ahern notes that IntelliDealerASP helps Ehrbar employees work more efficiently and effectively, and by avoiding onsite IT investments, “we spend less time managing the system; it’s all handled for us.”

Superstorm Sandy Doesn't Keep Ehrbar From Meeting Customer Expectations

In October 2012, weather reports were rife with predictions for severe destruction, power outages, and massive flooding in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. Ahern said he took those predictions to heart and prepared his dealerships for the storm. “I live on Long Island, and knew that there would be flooding and no electricity—that we might not be able to get to work for some time. In fact, just ten minutes south of where I live, the devastation was terrible, and count myself quite fortunate. That said, the day after the storm, I was able to work from a more distant location where I had power and access to the internet… and because our system is on the ASP platform, that allowed me to respond to our customers’ needs and requests.”

According to Ahern, it was that kind of disaster recovery and business continuity planning that attracted Ehrbar to IntelliDealerASP in the first place, and the decision was clearly the right one. “We can work from anywhere on ASP; truly, if we’d had onsite servers in our Long Island office, we would have had big problems, no access to our DMS. But instead, we could meet customer expectations no matter the weather conditions.”

For Ehrbar, IntelliDealerASP offers other benefits as well: “We’re a smaller distributor with three locations, but CDK levels the playing field for us. We have better, more seamless interfaces with our manufacturers—something we didn’t have with our onsite servers. And, we don’t need to have generators, separate air conditioning systems, and other resources needed to support an onsite system. In fact, it’s helping us reduce our carbon footprint, which is important to us as well,” notes Ahern.

He concludes: “Support from CDK is great, too. I simply log a question, and then I get instant notifications as the case progresses and gets resolved. I don’t like to call 1-800-help, but with CDK support, we are directly involved in every case and get responses right away. I love it.”
